The ADAMI Media Prize is launching its second workshop for fiction and documentary film projects in the editing stage, dealing with topics of cultural diversity, tolerance, integration or peaceful coexistence. The workshop is organized in partnership with the International Film Festival LISTAPAD and is held in Minsk, Belarus, Nov 6-8, 2019 for Belarusian and Ukrainian participants. 

The workshop is taking place in several editing rooms, where participants receive tutoring from experienced filmmakers/editors and are working on each other’s edits. Aside from the work in the editing room, ADAMI Studio participants will be given the chance to attend screenings and networking events that the festival offers to its international guests. All Belarusian and Ukrainian production companies, TV stations or individual producers/filmmakers had the chance to apply for this workshop.

Six projects have been selected to participate and have the chance to work on their projects with three international experts: Acclaimed film editor Lena Rem (Germany), famous film director Sergey Bukovsky (Ukraine) and experienced film lecturer Andrej Polupanov (Belarus).

ADAMI Special Screening with Focus on Frozen Conflicts

On November 1st 2019, ADAMI Media Prize had the great opportunity to present ADAMI prize-winning films with focus on frozen conflicts at the 62nd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animation Film.

At the ADAMI Get Together, accredited festival guests had the chance to get to know each other and meet informally, while having some drinks at the Festival Center.

The ADAMI Showcase at the Polish Institute was introduced by Leena Pasanen (Director of DOK Leipzig) and Stefan Tolz, followed by a few words by the Cultural Attachés from the Georgian and Ukrainian Embassies in Berlin, Olga Mishkina and Sopo Sakvarelidze-Bulgarini.

After the screening, the filmmakers Tako Robakidze, Anna Tsygyma and Angelina Kariakina discussed their films. Special guest Oleksandr Kolchenko, one of the protagonists and former political prisoner in Russia, joined the discussion.

This year, ADAMI SHOWCASE is part of the Special Screenings at the 62nd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animation Film. In cooperation with DOK Leipzig, three ADAMI Media Prize winning authors and film directors from Eastern Europe will present their films focused on Frozen Conflicts in their countries. The showcase allows filmmakers from Georgia and Ukraine to present their work to a broader international audience, and gives festival guests the opportunity to have a close insight into these geopolitical issues. 

The first short documentary The Tower by Salome Jashi (ADAMI Media Prize, News and Short Non-Fiction category 2018) explores in 4 minutes the drama of people who have been evicted from their homeland after the Russo-Georgian war in 2008. 

Young Georgian photographer Tako Robakidze will present her non-fiction Creeping Borders (ADAMI Online Prize for Web Video 2016). She has documented the daily shifting reality for locals living near Georgia’s occupied breakaway province of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), and what it means to go to sleep in one’s own country and wake up in occupied territory.

The Ukrainian film From Crimea to Siberia: How Russia is Tormenting Political Prisoners Sentsov and Kolchenko (ADAMI Special Mention prize 2018) will be presented by the authors Anna Tsygyma and Angelina Kariakina. The film produced by Hromadkse TV documents the difficult journey of Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and activist Oleksandr Kolchenko, who were detained in Crimea during the 2014 annexation. After the screening, special guest Oleksandr Kolchenko, who was just released from Russian prison on September 10, will join the discussion.

In addition to the ADAMI Showcase, at the festival there will be a Get Together, where accredited festival guests have the opportunity to meet informally and exchange ideas, while having some cocktails and snacks.

Knowledge Exchange for Media Professionals between EU and Eastern Partnership Countries

ADAMI DIALOGUE took place in Dresden 30 September – 1 October at the MDR Landesfunkhaus Sachsen. TV and media professionals from the EU and EaP countries took the opportunity to meet and discuss programming on minority and cultural diversity issues in their media organizations.

This year, ADAMI gathered editors, producers and broadcast media experts to share their strategies and experiences on programming cultural diversity topics for a two-day conference in Dresden.

Although diversity and migration discussions in the EU may differ from those in the Eastern Partnership countries, media coverage of sensitive issues often faces similar challenges. The Dresden conference offered participants the chance to learn about different media approaches to dealing with cultural diversity and to get inspired.

A total of 24 representatives from TV broadcasting and other media organisations participated; these included 13 from the EaP countries Ukraine, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, as well as 11 representatives from Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Serbia, Scotland and Belgium.

ADAMI DIALOGUE participants took time during the two-day conference to engage in individual meetings, to deepen their knowledge and to initiate collaboration between the broadcasters.

The conference was organized in cooperation with the partnership programme of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva and with MDR as hosting broadcaster in Germany. The conference was co-financed by the Eastern Partnership Initiative of the European Commission, Brussels.

Open call for Ukrainian and Belarusian Filmmakers - Apply Until August 25

The ADAMI Media Prize for Cultural Diversity in Eastern Europe is launching a Call for Applications for fiction and documentary film projects in the editing stage, addressing cultural diversity, tolerance, integration, or peaceful coexistence topics, to participate in a two and a half day workshop in Minsk, Belarus, November 6-8, 2019.

The workshop is being organized in partnership with the Minsk International Film Festival LISTAPAD. Aside from editing room work, ADAMI Studio participants will be given the chance to attend screenings and networking events that the festival offers to its international guests.

ADAMI Studio will focus on storyline development and the dramatic potential for selected projects.

Anna's Fellowship at DW has successfully ended

ADAMI is proud to be the internship provider for our participants!

Last year, in 2018, through the ADAMI activity two German media organizations as MDR TV and Deutsche Welle provided internship courses for women from Adami community. Three young women journalists were awarded fellowships to continue their professional media education in Germany.

Our dear friend and former participant at ADAMI events, from Moldova, Anna Glushko was one of them. She was elected at that concurs, due to TV report “Echoes of the Forgotten War” about Economist and researcher Svetlana Kapanzhi, who works on Bessarabian Gagauz and Bulgarians who fought in the First World War. Then this story was shown on Prime TV of Moldova. Correspondent Anna Glushko found out what prompted the author to undertake this massive work.

We want express our the best feeling and will to Anna about the successful completion of the internship. We make sure to continuous cooperation with Anna as well as with Deutsche Welle.
