ADAMI Dialogue TV Series Conference will be held in Mainz/Wiesbaden, May 7-8, 2020

This year’s ADAMI Dialogue is dedicated to the TV series and its potential to promote cultural diversity. We are inviting broadcasters, independent creative studios and online series editors from the six EU Eastern Partnership countries as well as from the EU, to participate in a two-day conference, 7-8 May at the ZDF Broadcasting Center in Mainz, Germany.

The conference is organized in partnership with the goEast Festival of Central and Eastern European Film in Wiesbaden, where selected TV series from the Eastern Partnership countries will be presented. Participants also will have the opportunity to take part in festival screenings and events.

ADAMI Dialogue participants will learn recent developments and trends in the European TV series landscape. They will get to know colleagues from other parts of Europe, establish cooperation, and - most important - focus on the political power of the TV series format and its potential to contribute to a tolerant, diverse society.

Film Screening and Discussion with the Ukrainian Filmmaker and former Political Prisoner Oleg Sentsov

In cooperation with the Ukrainian Embassy in Tbilisi and PEN Center Georgia, ADAMI organized an evening with Oleg Sentsov in Tbilisi.

The film “From Crimea to Siberia - How Russia is Tormenting Political Prisoners Sentsov and Kolchenko” by the authors Anna Tsygyma and Angelina Kariakina (produced by Hromadske TV) was shown at the Cinema House Tbilisi. The film follows Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko, who were detained in Crimea during the Russian annexation in 2014 and just released in September 2019 in the course of a prisoners swap between Ukraine and Russia.

The evening was introduced by Stefan Tolz, program director of the ADAMI Media Prize, and Paata Shamugia (PEN Center Georgia).

After the film, there was an intense discussion about the Russian penitentiary system, similar experiences that Georgians and Ukrainians have with Russian occupation, and about the importance of international pressure in cases of violations of human rights and international law.

Film Screening “From Crimea to Siberia - How Russia is tormenting political prisoners Sentsov and Kolchenko” at the Cinema House in Tbilisi


The documentary film was produced in 2018 by Hromadske TV in Ukraine, and is authored and directed by Anna Tsygyma and Angelina Kariakina. It documents the difficult journey inside the Russian penitentiary system of the Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and the activist Oleksandr Kolchenko, who were detained in Crimea during the 2014 annexation.The film recieved an ADAMI Special Mention in 2018.

ADAMI Studio Tbilisi – Film Editing Counseling
 

ADAMI Studio, a three-day film editing counseling in Tbilisi was held on December 5-7. The counselling was organized in partnership with the Tbilisi International Film Festival and Georgian Public Broadcaster, for fiction and documentary projects dealing with topics of cultural diversity, minorities, migration and peaceful coexistence. There were Armenian, Azerbaijani and Georgian film projects participating.

The internationally renowned Berlin-based film editor Patricia Rommel, the director, producer and professor Vladimir Oseledchyk from Kiev and the well-known Georgian director Otar Shamatava were working with the participants in several editing rooms. ADAMI Studio participants were also given the chance to attend screenings and networking events that the festival offers to its international guests. An open one-hour Masterclass by Patricia Rommel at Amirani Cinema was also included in the program.

At the opening of the workshop, taking place in the premises of Georgian Public Broadcaster, guests and journalists were welcomed by Michael Fabri, Deputy of the German Ambassador in Georgia, Kote Jandieri, Head of the Film Department of GPB and Stefan Tolz, Program Director of the ADAMI Media Prize.

Masterclass by Patricia Rommel at the Tbilisi International Film Festival
 

Patricia Rommel, one of the most successful film editors in Germany, is holding a one-hour masterclass at the Tbilisi International Film Festival, where she will give insights into her experience in editing Hollywood films. The masterclass is held on Friday, December 6th, 10 am in the Amirani Cinema, Hall 4. 

Patricia Rommel worked amongst others with Michael Hoffman (The Last Station) or Angelina Jolie (In the Land of Blood and Honey). Two of her edited films were awarded an Oscar: „Nowhere in Africa“ by Caroline Link and „The Life of Others“ by Florian Henkel von Donnersmarck. She has been teaching at several German film schools, and altogether has edited more than 50 feature films and television projects.

The masterclass is organized in the framework of ADAMI Studio, a film editing counseling workshop for fiction and documentary projects that deal with topics of cultural diversity, minorities, migration and peaceful coexistence. ADAMI Studio is organized in partnership with the Tbilisi International Film Festival and Georgian Public Broadcaster, and is held in Tbilisi, Georgia, Dec 5-7, 2019 for Armenian, Azerbaijani and Georgian participants.
